Inspiring a generation of
articulate, critical thinkers

We create Australian curriculum-aligned resources to help students from Prep to Year 12 think creatively, find the words to articulate their ideas, and make a point in order to excel both academically and beyond the school gates.

Hi! I'm Kylie Van Grinsven, Founder of TeacherTalk.

As a teacher, NAPLAN and ATAR Senior English marker, it seems Australian students struggle with idea generation, articulation, and writing for purpose.

Students bristle with stories to share. Stories of triumph, failure, justice, bullying, love and loss. The noise of these stories can quite literally be deafening. Yet, when we ask students to put pen to paper, their minds typically go blank. This is a tragedy!

The Australian English curriculum is a powerful vehicle through which to inspire students of all ages to think critically, generate vocabulary, and express their ideas. Therefore I've created an English program to help students from Prep to Year 12 understand the curriculum, think for themselves, articulate their ideas, and develop the skills to thrive beyond the school gates.

Target the mark.

Write from the heart.

Think, write, thrive.

There is a misconception that only the 'bookworms' or 'nerdy' kids can be effective communicators and excel in English. This is simply not true.

Literature is an art form much like paintings, music, and drama that invites individual interpretation. The TeacherTalk English program supports students to read texts such as picture books, novels, movies, and news articles to understand why the text was created and to hear an author's message. They learn to consider this message through the lens of their own life experience in order to form an opinion. Our motto is: 'Don't repeat after me!'. They are given tools to craft responses to share their views. By giving students the space to write what they want to write, and the tools to do it easily, they generate responses that are truly inspiring.

Every resource on this site is meticulously crafted to deliver the Australian curriculum (version 9). Through simple steps, students across each year level explore increasingly complex texts to expand their world view. They gather vocabulary, play with literary devices, and develop language skills to articulate their own ideas with authority.

Social media, screen time, and AI technology exert significant influence on how children think. At TeacherTalk, we harness these tools to give students a competitive edge. However, we also encourage students to put their devices down, look up and observe life around them. By balancing online learning, AI technology and critical thinking, students learn to articulate their ideas and communicate effectively to succeed at school and in any situation beyond the school gates.
