Over the past decade, as a classroom teacher in both the state and private sectors and as a Senior English External Assessment and NAPLAN marker, I have marked thousands of essays. The declining data on student outcomes screams for immediate intervention with academic writing. In the current education system, it can be very difficult to understand what students are expected to do to achieve success with academic writing.

I am excited to launch TeacherTalk with my suite of English writing courses because what better place is there to start than with literacy?

In my courses, reluctant writers are taught how to think for themselves and decide how to respond to the ideas they encounter in their classroom text. They are given the right tools to decide what to say, and to get the job done efficiently. Enthusiastic writers learn to write with purpose, pack a punch, and make a point. All students learn how to find the right words and structure them into literary devices to captivate the reader and excel with the marking criteria.

Importantly, students build independence using curriculum-aligned marking guides. They also learn to use an innovative Eng-Code® diagnostic system to see the grade they deserve and edit for success.

Founded on educational psychologist Lev Vygotsky's research on 'The Zone of Proximal Development', students learn to think critically about the ideas they encounter in texts. Through open-ended activities, they learn to think for themselves, 'get in the zone', and be productive. Every resource is custom designed and streamlined from Foundation to Year 12. This helps students to recall prior learning, build upon past achievement, and focus on the endgame of success in Year 12. 

Writing is essential to every subject at school. By practising the art of story-telling through the narrative genre, students become literate. Driven by the opportunity to share their own views, students are motivated like never before to write, and to write well.
